Does anyone know if there is any legal issue with taking photo's of people and displaying them on a web page without gaining there permission? Particularly if these pictures are embarrising

it depends where the pictures are taken.

If its in public then they have no say. However, if you put silly titles like "**** eating hot dog" for a photo of some bloke eating a hot dog then they could potentionally cause issues.

haha! **** eating hot dog. I always wondered if it was legal about posting photos of people. I often see on other forums in "post your photos" people put photos of the random public. Someone posted one the other day of an old women just sat on a wall :eek:

I wanted to do just a small website... Basically posting embarrising pictures of people on drunken nights out!

People unfortunatley dressed and worse for wear etc... It's abit childish perhaps but just something I wanted to play around with for a laugh!

As long as the photos are taking outside the club as they are staggering around the street trying to eat their kebab then you'll be fine.

You will own the copyright of each photo, and as it was in public you can do anything you like.

Tbh, you might be ok taking photos in clubs etc as well, effectively the photos are yours to do what you like with. Model agreements don't really mean anything in the UK anyway.

You would be better asking in the photography section about this as its more about the legalities of posting "candid street" shots than actually web design etc :)

This guy's work might be worth a look;

As has been stated, taking pics in public spaces outside is fine. If you want to take pictures in the club you do need the club owners permission.

EDIT: Bare in mind even though what you're doing is legal it might well provoke a bad reaction from some of your subjects.

a bit offt topic but there are some really nice travel photos on that site

Call me anything you like but I'm not that bothered about people getting upset, it's just meant to be a little bit of fun and then again if people don't want to have things like this online well they should'nt do that stuff in public...

The idea I have is for people to upload embarrassing pictures and then vote on them

If I do make the site and went out and got myself in an absolute state I'd post myself on the site without hesitation, if your willing to make yourself look like a pilock in public where potentially hundreds if not thousands of people are going to see you why should you have a problem with it going online?
