Possible M/B problem? P5ND2

Hi,

I just built up a system based around a P5ND2-SLI but am having endless problems with it. I'm not that experienced with this stuff but have a feeling the motherboard may be the cause - I'm hoping someone with more experience may be able to confirm this.

The system is - 3.4 Pentium 4, 2gb memory, 2 250 HDDs, Nividia 7900 GTX, Kworld DVT100 tuner, SB ExtremeMusic, 24" dell screen and 600w PSU. The system is well cooled with a fan controller, 2x120mm fans in the case and a very good CPU fan. On the hottest day this summer it reached 40C on the CPU whic I think is not excessive.

The problems arising are:

1. frequently on bootup or after just having had reformatted the HDD the computer will hang at the BIOS stage. Pressing DEL to go in to setup shows a response at the bottom of the screen (a message along the lines of "Setting up system") but goes no further. A reset usually doesn't clear the problem, only powering down then powering back up.

2. occaisionally I get a series of 2 or 3 beeps from the M/B during use. They seem completely unconencted to any work being done and frequently the computer is idle at the time.

3. most annoying are the lock ups. These have occurred with a clean install of windows even. The format is usually always the same: a long pause of about a minute, followed by the computer quickly catching up with tasks followed a minute later by a complete pause. The screen stays the same, sometimes I can even move the mouse for a while but it just freezes. CTRL-ALT-DEL is of no use. The few times I have had the task manager open at the time shows no rogue processes taking up resources.

Is this endemic of a M/B failure? The fact that failures seem to occur even before windows has booted leads me to believe so. Or is it likely to be a memory problem?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

I have 2 P5ND2 rigs and the only thing similar I have noticed is a tendency to be very slow coming out of the screensaver - it can sometimes take 5 or 6 seconds to show the user login screen so I can click on my username and get back to the desktop.

I always put this down to the fact that I am running F@H on everything and that takes up 100% system resources whenever possible.

The other thing I know about these motherboards is that they are REALLY sensitive to what memory you use. I only use Corsair now as anything else just seems to give problems.
