Possible memory incompatibility with 9950X3D question

Hi,

Looking for some advice or input on a problem I had after trying to upgrade from a 7800X3D to a 9950X3D. Current PC specs below.

After installing a 9950X3D in to my system it would not POST, I contacted OC support, they were extremely helpful, but were not able to resolve my problem so I had to return the CPU.

On the Motherboard website it states that the non white version of my memory is compatible with the 7800X3D, but when I select the 9000 series processor it doesn't list the RAM. I've had the white version installed on my system since July last year and I've not had any issues.

Since I've had my system I've always had 'memory context restore' enabled to prevent very long loading times at boot. However, Asus has just released a BIOS update for my board to 3003 that states "This update enhances compatibility with high-capacity memory modules and improves overall system performance". I've updated the BIOS to 3003, and have not enabled 'memory context restore' this time, but I'm now getting normal boot up times which I didn't get before. I am wondering if it was some form of memory incompatibility I had, and if it's worth trying a 9950 again. I've started to research X870 boards and memory as I could ideally do with a CPU that is better with productivity, but would prefer a lower cost option of just replacing the CPU.

Any input would be very welcome, thanks.

Andy.

7000 and 9000 share the same memory controller if its compatible with one it is with the other, did you clear the cmos before switching to the 9950x3d not that it really matters you've sent it back now or did you get a replacement?

@AndyM001

9000 series defaults to memory context restore enabled, I've used various BIOS on X670E TUF/Hero with 9600X/9700X/9800X3D, 3 types of memory kits.

I use non QVL RAM every PC build I've ever had, not had an issue.

Thanks for the replies.

I had the latest BIOS installed at the time, the OC support guys had me clearing the CMOS, swapping RAM modules around including just one stick at a time with the 9950X3D installed, just wouldn't post. Put the 7800X3D in, booted up no problem, so we thought it might be a problem with the CPU. I returned it, OC support tested it but didn't find any problems with it. I didn't get a replacement.

They're messing with the BIOS and memory compatibility/stability all the time, sometimes a new BIOS is even a regression (not often, but it happens), so it is really hard to have a conclusion about anything.

Could be a ram timing issue. Could you get into bios?
I did once whilst the OC guy was asking me to carry out some tests over the phone, I think it was when I hit the clear CMOS button while it was powered up. It only happened the once, all other clear CMOS actions were when powered down. I even flashed the BIOS to a previous version, tried to POST and couldn't, then reflashed to the latest BIOS version to see if it was a corrupted update.

That's really odd, might be a dodgy motherboard?
