My neighbour has a Gateway Desktop PC which is fitted with a 3.2 Ghz PIV and 2.5 GB RAM. . They recently started experiencing stability issues with various Windows apps encountering errors and terminating. This has quickly escalated to Blue Screens of Death, with messages such as Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_area and driver_irq_not_less_or_equal.
Testing the PC I have found the following ;
It will fail memtest x86 when the optical mouse is attached, however will pass all tests with the mouse disconnected. I have also tried a different PSU and found the same results.
Windows is still unstable, irrespective of whether the mouse is attached and which PSU I have fitted.
I don't have spare PC components - PSU, RAM, MB etc at my disposal to test with to isolate where the fault lies.
Any ideas?
