Possible Motherboard Problem?

Hi,

Just finished my first build earlier today, all appeared to be going well until I did a reboot and since the realtek network adapter isn't found by Windows?

I've checked and there are no active lights on, even after changing ports on my router.

Have just tried reinstalling the driver for it using the CD for my board (GA-X58A-UD3R) all appeared to be fine until the keyboard lights went out and stop responding along with the mouse!?!

The installation carried on and prompted me at the same time that it appears the network adapter is in sleep mode, and to plug a cable in? Well there is one already in.

The only thing I can do is power off the PC and reboot.

Anyone have any ideas what the cause of this could be or what I can do to resolve it?

Many Thanks & Regards

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I've just checked and yes it appears to be enabled. However when looking in the device manager there is no entry for Network Adapters?

Is it worth trying an update of the BIOS, as I notice on the Gigabyte site that there is what appears to be a more upto date version 24/08/2010.

I downloaded the latest version of the driver for the Network Adapter, but during the instal it advise you that it might be asleep and to plug in a cable, which makes sense if it's not listed in Windows.

Cheers

Try a BIOS update but if the network adapter is enabled in the BIOS and not appearing in Device Manager then this suggests something's wrong.

I've just updated the BIOS and still the Network Adapter doesn't show in Windows....

Just looking through the BIOS and the following are set: -

Onboard H/W 1394 - Enabled
Onboard H/W LAN - Enabled
Green LAN - Disabled
SMART LAN - [Press Enter]

If I press enter then it just shows Virtual Cable Test, but nothing is happening.

I'm at a loss as to what else to look at

When I plug in the cable the only light that flicks every now and then is the Activity LED.

Regards

Just an update....

I Googled the problem and read a post where someone else was having the same problem, in the post they said that if you power down and unplug the power for a few minutes that on reboot it is back.

Tried it and I currently have the Network Adapter back

Now I just need to see if it happens again, and if it does if its Windows causing the problem or possibly a faulty board?

Any advice on what to check in Windows (Win 7 Pro 64 bit) or anything else would be very much welcomed :)

Regards

Well since doing that it hasn't happened again.

I ran the PC last night from 7 'till around midnight and touch wood no problems.

I suppose I'll just have to keep an eye on it.
