Its time to change my car, currently a 1.6 Astra Mk4 SXI. Basically my choice is quite limited (mainly price and miles etc) Overall I've found the Mondeo Ghia 130 to be the most bang for my buck.

So, hopefully I'll be out tomorrow for a test drive but would like to hear what people think of them. I know they are pretty much fully loaded so mainly want to know about the performance and handling etc

All info is appreciated :)

I got lumbered with the astra from the previous employee, so this is the first time I've actually got to pick a car.

Basically I've got around 10.5K to spend on a car thats less than a year old and has no more than 10K miles, so not a lot to play with really.

Think the Mondeo should be a good option.

My dad had a 54 plate TDCI 130 Mondeo, it was an LX though. Very responsive, I seem to remember they put down a bit more power than Ford state. They eat up the miles pretty effortlessly. You should find it a nice car to drive, and plenty of gadgets to keep you comfortable in a Ghia one.

go for it, i'm looking for a ghia X at the moment purely coz i want everything lol, i've driven the TDCi 130 zetec and it has great torque, 0-62 takes ~ 9 seconds but does feel quicker due to the torque of the diesel engine, the engine itself has a very good reputation, and as you said yourself, you do get a LOT of kit for your money. Some people report wind noise at high speed, i think this only affects a few coz i never heard any at 85mph.

Only bad sides i can think of is the repmobile image it has (which means nothing to you anyway) and depreciation from new which also means nothing to you :), on the counter though, buying used can bring you a right bargain.
