Hi,

I need a new monitor, my problem is i cannot find one that fits the bill.

led is a must as i am trying to lower power consumption, hdmi and dvi so i can connect revo and pc. i want full hd not worried size wise AND i would really love it to be silver or black and silver at least.

impossible dream? why is it that with monitors you always have to compromise, surely if a manufacturer released a monitor that had all that (excluding the silver thing that's just me being awkward) we would be buying that monitor above all else??

/rant :D

yeah i have seen that acer, not sure how good it would be though. well that dell is nice but its lcd and not full hd so doesn't really meet the requirements. its not for any gaming at all, i do need true colours for when i am doing website design for the business but its mainly a general all rounder for pc apps and web browsing.

i know what an led screen is i have a laptop with a white led screen and a samsung led tv, i do want led for the reduction in power draw and i do think the colours seem clearer on my laptop although i don't know what panel is used in the dell m1330.

the dell is gorgeous just for general pc use i think for me, its overkill, i have also read about a few problems with a pink tint to the colours. I want something in the middle lol

i like the benq altho not at all silver however you either go for led and no hdmi or hdmi and no led, its annoying!

thanks for the advice, much appreciated :)

Don't scare him away :D

TN monitors are fine, yes there not real colours but when do websites generally use real colours? Now if you were heavily doing photoshop work or photography were colours need to be precise. But they aren't that bad.
When i say not real colours, the colours just generally seem to be brighter, abit more exaggerated.

Also is there any reason for you wanting a 16:9 HD panel? Imo and im sure a lot of people here will agree that a 16:10 panel would be better if your doing any sort of design due to the extra vertical height.

lol id love a 16:10 just felt i was already being awkward so didnt say... :p

yeah iv seen them im just not sure about the design though.. i quite like the dell sx2210 style, would seriously love a silver one but its not lookin possible :(

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Samsung SyncMaster XL2370. The problem is the price and availability is a bit iffy at the moment in the UK. It isn't silver, but it's a stunning looking monitor with very impressive image quality.

It sounds as if colour reproduction is important to you. Don't let those anti-twisted-nematics guys get to you. The technology has come leaps and bounds since it was first introduced and manufacturers are pushing it even further at the moment with LED backlighting and 120Hz refresh rates.

When do you need to make the purchase? I am fairly confident that Samsung, ViewSonic and probably others are going to expand their LED-backlit range enormously this year. Unfortunately consumers tend to favour black and transparent plastics at the moment over silver, so it remains to be seen whether a monitor that fits your criteria perfectly will be launched. I would agree with others and say go for the Acer S243HL(bmii), but I haven't tested it yet myself and it sounds as if colour reproduction is not its strong point.

It is also worth remembering that LED-backlighting in most cases will increase brightness and contrast ratio but does not necessarily affect the colour gamut. From my own fairly extensive testing with various Samsungs I can confirm that the perceived colour reproduction is enhanced using LED over CCFL for the backlight, but compared to IPS or OLED panels the improvement is questionable.

thanks for that i do quite like the styling of the sammy XL2370.

well i don't currently have a monitor im using a laptop and the tv mainly but i like to have the tv on in the background while on the pc and i cannot do that apart from on laptop at the moment.

I could wait a little bit but i dont want to wait over a month or so ideally.
if i knew what was coming out and when that would help but i can't find much info.

Yeah, well for now my recommendation would definitely be the XL2370 for you - especially if you like the style. I'll see what I can dig up from my 'sources' regarding near-future releases. Strangely I actually visited Samsung for a demonstration of their current OLED tech in Hong Kong and they couldn't tell me what was just around the corner! :(

yeah its all hush hush.

it doesnt actually have to be silver i just really want led with hdmi and dvi or 2 hdmi would be better, some silver on the stand would do even i just cant seem to find anything apart from the acer L one and the LG rose tinted one, which i dont want that fit the criteria.

argh took me ages to find a silver case didnt think itd be same for monitor!

iv heard that the XL2370 is a bit wobbly is that true?

i dont like that its all black shiny plastic, really dont get the appeal
would far rather a nice brushed silver effect. all the same now :(

Yeah... About time they released a stainless steel or brushed aluminium case? :p

I'll update my website as soon as I know what Samsung et al. plan to release in the near future. I'll post here to let you know when/if that happens.

yep i know, i bought the lian li pca17a because it seemed the only option for brushed silver look, i get stick for wanting everything silver but i want things to look nice.

thanks il keep checking your site :)
