Possible (perceived by me) flow issue

Hi There,

I'm not really sure if i have an issue or whether it's just me being paranoid !

I've just replaced my pretty old RM850 with an Antec Signature 1000 Titanium as i was getting the occasion total power off when playing a heavy duty game for several hours.

When i fired it all back up I noticed that my flow indicator was not moving !
I have a Asus Prime X570 Pro + AMD Ryzen 5900X and use the Mobo Qfan control plus FanXpert4 in the OS.
I've generally run the PWM D5 pump at about 45% ramping up to 80% based on the inline temp sensor.
Pump RPM at the low end is 2220.

With replacing the PSU, I've had the PC on its side, and was therefore wondering if I'd managed to get an air lock in the system ... I've since put the PC at every conceivable angel and direction to try to get any air locks out, I also left it off overnight with the fill port screw cap off to aid in any de-bubbling.

BUT now it seems that I only get enough flow to turn the indicator when running the pump at 50% .. roughly 3300 RPM, which is significantly louder that what I had it at and what I want :(
Also when running it at BIOS set speed with the PSU bridge connector (I think about 60-70%) the flow stops when I put the PC on its side ... and when tilting it up-side-down .... I'm not sure what this is telling me ! ?

CPU temp at idle with pump at 3300RPM is 48c . Stress testing it for 5 mins or so with CPU-Z takes it up to 71c - with the pump running at 70% 3950RPM the CPU temp is pretty much the same.
Running the pump ate 90% 4650RPM actually got the CPU up to 78c, but I did leave it stress testing for longer (forgot it was running :) )

I'm fairly sure my temps were lower than this whilst running my more conservative pump curve (only maxed out at 75% and generally sat at 45% at 30c ... it's not doing that now :(

I hope one of you may have an idea ... ultimately I know I'll probably have to do a full strip-down to see what's going on, but I'd rather avoid that hassle if I can ! :)

Full specs below, plus a few pics that might help to see how I'm setup.

Many thanks
Damian

Just curious, when you replaced your PSU did you use the cables from RM850 and not the ones from the Antec?

Na :) i know the pinouts are different .... as I had made up custom length cables for the RM850 ... couldn't be arsed this time, so used the supplied Antec ones :)

could just be having the pc on its side
caused the flow indicator to move further down the spindle
making it stick
if i am jumping the psu to test
my pumps go slow not at bios speed as motherboard is off
so no pwm signal
which would explain it not flowing properly on its side
not a direct comparison
but with a 3900x and 2080ti running cpuz stress on all cores
i max out at 70c with fans at 1000rpm
and am 47c at idle though its not truly idle as got stuff running
pc has been running a few hours so everythings warmed up

Thanks Mcnumpty2323,

That was a good observation regarding the flow meter .. and you are correct !
I twisted the flow meter sideways whilst the pump was running at 70% and it stopped turning.
So it clearly has a poop bearing !!

And comparing to your temps, I'm probably OK ... bearing in mind I'm running my 5900 at a constant 4625 MHz !
Oh well I guess the only way to test will be to play Doom External all day tomorrow :) it's a tough job but someone's go to do it :)
It will give my new PSU a workout too :)

Thanks for you help dude.
Damian

PS I'm also Dyslexic and get you 100% ;)

You're welcome mate
And yeah my cores are only at 4300mhz
Enjoy your gaming :)

And they're pretty used to my weird typing style now lol
If someone says something helpful
Doesn't really matter if they type it in a weird fashion ;)

Well you know what they say about best laid plans !! :)

Spent half the morning messing around with my 3D printer that had decided to be a t**t !

Then had to go into work to sort out an issue !

Got back and fell asleep on the sofa ! :)

And i'm still not 100% convinced that all is well with my cooling, so a rebuild may still happen
That will be my new year eve \ day \ weekend sorted ! :)

Have a good new year BTW

Damian

Lol yeah need a plan for when original plan doesn't work
Being Scottish even though school was
A very very long time ago
They must have drummed Burns into my brain
The best laid schemes o mice and men gang aft agley
Comes to mind often when things don't go to plan

It's obviously not severely wrong
Going by your temperatures
But yeah if you have the feeling it's not quite right
Then if you're like me you will end up either draining and refilling
Or pulling stuff apart and redoing it
That's part of the joys of custom watercooling :)

And a happy New year to you too mate

Well ... it's been stripped down and rebuilt (twice ! ) and is now back to normal function :)

There was a line of gunk in the CPU block fins where the jet is, not sure why or where this came from as it was actually all cleaned and flushed through about 9 months ago.
And i'm not 100% convinced that this was the single cause for the sudden issue.

There was what looks like lime scale build up on the pump and a few other places, which I don't understand as i've only ever used Mayhems pure water and XT1 Nuke plus their cleaning stuff.
The only thing I can come up with is some sort of metal reaction, so this time i've upped the concentration from 10 to 20%.

I've got an Aquaero 6 now, so having fun playing with that ! i'm just getting the display gauges working so that i can monitor thongs before I give the system a good workout :)

Cheers :)
