Basically I've now come to the conclusion that it would well be a dodgy corsair GS700 PSU.
Using HW Monitor and PC Wizard the 12v rail is reading as 5v and 4.8v respectively, however obviously this is not reliable, and don't have access to a multimeter.
I'm presuming the computer is lacking power and thus the display driver constantly crashes as the HD 6970 cannot get enough juice.
Any advice appreciated.
