Possible RAM problem

In the last week or so, my pc has started to either crash out of games or reboot without warning or error messages. This seems only sporadic and I can be using it for a couple of hours without problem. I ran virus and spyware etc checks and all clean.

I ran memtest about 2 weeks ago and it ran for over an hour with no problems but last night, I ran it and it produced an error straight away complaining that it failed to move something and gave a couple of memory addresses.

The ram is Geil PC6400 2x1Gb.

I only bought it in August/Sept from OCuk so still within warranty (hopefully!) so before I start the RMA process is there something else I can do to double check the state of the RAM?

If it needs to be returned, do I goto OCuk or Geil? (Never returned anything before – been lucky I guess!) Anyone know what the turnaround is like for returns?

Cheers

It's within the six month period of it being assumed to be faulty from when it was bought.

The contract of sale is with OCUK so there is no reason why you shouldn't return it to them. Since it's faulty, I believe you are within your rights to request them to collect it or refund your postage for return.

In addition, since they have current stock, there is no reason why they shouldn't send you out a replacement straight away.

Let us know how you get on...

My mem voltage was set to Auto on the MB but the DRAM Freq was set to 800 and the timings to 4.4.4.12 . So I have changed it to 2.1v after reading another similar thread tonight.

I ran memtest and it ran through fine to 100% (will leave it on for longer later)

Hopefully no RMA required. :p
