Possible scam - Monster competition?

Received a phone call from a mobile number this morning from a woman claiming to be from Monster and that I'd apparantly been picked as one of their lucky winners for a Monster branded BMX bike... It's a competition I don't recall entering as I had a stint of comping maybe 8 months ago but gave up as it was dull.

She knew my name, and email address and obviously phone number and advised she'd send an email with details to confirm delivery address etc but that I would need to send an image of my provisional drivers license or passport to confirm my identity.

So far I've had no email, but am curious as to whether this may be some sort of scam? Have never won anything so am not sure what the procedure is...
 
If you want to trust me her name/number and I can ask a friend to take a look into it?

Aside from that, I'd be asking for them to email you first, check the email is legit then go from there.
 
Yeah sure, I'd send a copy of my UK proof of identity to a random who cold called me.

Don't care if there was a legit competition, it could be someone banking on that to gain trust.
 
Finally got the email, reverse searched and put all the womans details through and everything seems to have checked out, I have replied without my ID though and asked to clarify why it was needed.

If I get a bike then cool, I won't use it myself but will throw it up on ebay or something and hopefully get a good amount back for it.
 
I would bet my house on it being genuine.

They probably just want to double check you are eligible to enter. They always have conditions don't they, like not open to employees and all that.
 
Just an update but the BMX arrived this morning, not sure what to do with it other than flog it but can't find any information on who made it or what its worth and prices can vary wildly.... if its competition grade it would be over a grand I guess but don't know....
 
Ha first time I've seen a suspected scam pay off. Maybe I should reply to all those hot sexy singles that keep emailing me then :D.

Post a pic someone may recognise it.
 
Yeah quite pleasantly surprised.... I did go through a phase on entering in comps online but for the life of me don't remember this one.... will get a picture up tomorrow.
