About 18 months ago I build a system for a friend based around a Shuttle SN25P barebones system. He's been having some trouble with it lately, and I've got it currently to see what the problem is. The symptoms I'm getting are:
The system will always POST, but refuses to attempt to boot Windows unless I perform a BIOS CMOS reset, it then manages to boot up to the Windows logo, and then just hangs. If I go into the BIOS setup, and load failsafe settings, I get back to square one, it won't even start to boot into Windows. I've had the hard drive in my PC, ran a checkdisk, defragged it, had it running overnight, all fine. I have now restored the original Ghost image I took of the machine when it was first built. Popped it back into the Shuttle, same symptoms...
This looks to me like a mobo issue, I've downloaded what looks like the latest BIOS from Shuttle for the FN25 motherboard, fn25s02a. The zip file just contains the BIN file and the awdflash utility, can anyone remind me how I flash the BIOS? All the mainboards I've owned have come with a BAT file to flash the BIOS...
Can anyone advise on what this might be? Can a replacement mobo be purchased separately?
The rest of the system is a Socket 939 AMD 64 3000, 2 x 512Mb PC3200 Value Geil RAM, Hitachi DeskStar 160Gb SATA-II HDD, and a bog standard PCI-E graphics card.
I now thank the day I chose a Coolermaster Stacker for my own system, these little Shuttles are horrible to work on!
Any help would be much appreciated!
