Possible Sony buying advice?

Hello,
I currently own an old Minolta Dynax 7D, and im looking to upgrade. I had thought that if i went with Sony i can use the old lenses, although it seems i would need an adaptor of some sort i think for the new models.
Bearing that in mind, is it worth sticking with Sony or going from scratch with Canon (Nikon ive heard good things about, but also that they are a bit pricier than Canon).
If i stick with Sony, what would be a decent model? I like the Alpha 7IV, is it much of an improvement over the 7III?
I had intended to ask what would be in the same region as my Minolta in terms of performance, but I suppose thats like asking which F1 car is most like a model T ford! Im going to use it for trips to Brands Hatch, museums, some walking holidays, so i wont need to spend loads. Budget in region of 2-2.5k, and if none of my current minolta lenses will work, that price would have to include either an adaptor or a new basin lens, to be expanded on later.
Ive also assumed buying new, but for same budget, is it worth loking at second hand equipment? Ive never bought second hand cameras, so dont know what questions to ask, and also dont want to buy something that wont be supported imminently.

Sony A7iv is a good shout, lots of lens choices and Sony glass is exceptional, especially the GM glass.

If you’re a casual shooter then I’d definitely look at the A7iii too, still a great camera now and produces lovely images, you can pick them up for around £1400 brand new so a good saving over the iv.

If you went Mirrorless with canon their line up of RF lenses isn’t very big but you have the option to adapt EF lenses and there’s a wide range as you know.

The A7iv uses the new AF system from the A1 and A7Siii, fully articulating screen and the new menu system which is also a lot more user friendly than what’s supplied with the A7iii.

Me personally I’d go for the A7iii and a either a good GM lens or 1-2 third party whether that is Sigma/Tamron or non GM Sony lenses.

Your 7D is an APS camera so your lenses may only cover the APS sensor in which case it's moderately pointless wanting to use them on full-frame cameras like the A7 range. If you have lenses worth carrying forward you could look at Sony's APS A6x00 range and the top end A6600 with an LA-EA5 adapter will leave you change out of £1600.

What's the usage/photography areas you're interested on?
Would you like good portability or is that no concern?

Image quality wise even 1" sensor fixed lens "bridge" cameras would be improvement and some of them would have huge versatility.
And any interchangeable lens system camera is of course clearly better.
And anything related to electronic is obviously better with for example continuous shooting being light year ahead.

I would just get a used A7R3, they have epic sensors. You can crop a photo by a lot and still have a very detailed image. Comes in handy so much

Hi, im likely to use for museums, watching some racing at brands hatch (so, cars mostly) and some walking holidays. In terms of portability, im happy with the 7d i have, im used to either having it round my neck or in my camera back pack.
Looks like a a7iii may be my best option so far!
thanks to everyone for replying!
