Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security 2007 (a very nice anti-virus btw) detects that spyware is loaded upon opening overclockers.co.uk from:
Code:

I couldn't find anywhere to post webshop/site matters so I'm posting here.

Also if anyone else has detected similar plz say so, I don't know the exact nature of this "threat" but it's entirely possible that either OcUK got hacked or their webmaster is being naughty.

Either way, thought I'd bring it to your attention.

Something like this popped up before? Apparently it was something to do with the shopping basket software (AFAIK) and that it was nothing to worry about?

Ah I've discovered that it's a well known ad/banner URL, my anti-virus is flagging it as spyware as it reads data from the hosts file for visited IPs and URLs for what is essentially "market research".

The hosts file contains IP addresses for all the sites you've visited, the first time you visit a URL your browser will request the server IP from the DNS so it can connect, when read this list of IPs (which also contains your own) is basically a useful resource for seeing what sites OcUKs (or whoever uses these banners) demographic is also visiting.

Not really a problem unless you're very private, or up to something dodgy.

The end. :D

"Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security 2007" you say . . . think I'll get myself a copy. AVG doesn't report this activity (no real surprise), but nor does Tea-Timer (part of Spybot S&D)

Its not spyware or a virus. :p

As said above its nothing to worry about, some scanners pick it up as suspect activity when the security settings are on high.
