Possible to apply colour overlay in printer driver?

We produce worksheets for our staff using a proprietary application. A staff member is dyslexic and has asked if the text could be purple rather than black to make it easier for him to read. There's no way to change the text colour in the application so I've been looking into applying a colour overlay through the printer driver. We use Epson printers and I'm not able to see any such option that changes the colour of the text. Has anyone done something like this and if so how did you go about it?

Is it Epson colour printers ? Laser or inkjet.

My initial thought it might be worth looking into printing with a custom colour profile set for your employee where the blacks are adjusted towards the purple … but that would change all black colour content.

When it comes to printing, in the dialogue box, you might have the option somewhere to set the colour management, and if you change away from auto, you should be able to pick an ICC profile. If that’s the case, then the next step is to get a suitable ICC profile. … which isn’t something I’ve ever tried to do.

Edit: I’ve read on some pages that the printer dialogue in some printers will allow you to adjust the colour directly within the settings … for example this page tells you how to remove a colour cast, but the same would apply when trying to add it.

Could try the colour blind/colour filters
In ease of access settings
Though I assume it gets applied to everything
Not just text
So if there's images/graphs etc on the worksheet
Probably changes their colour too

Another option
Though bit time consuming if it's a lot of pages
Screenshot the pages
Use a photo editor to select the text
Then change text colour to whatever you want
Then print their copy

Actually thought I could change colour/colour profiles
On my epson printer though
Before pressing print
Though again that would change text and everything else
Not just text colour
Not on pc right now to look at the options though

I was wondering about printing the documents to PDF, then importing the PDF documents into Photoshop and change accordingly.

I've tried it myself and using a colour overlay in Photoshop does work.

I wonder if the free Photoshop alternatives like GIMP can import PDF files? Time to find out.

Edit: GIMP can import PDF files. I'm not overly familiar with GIMP, but I was able to create a new overlay image and flood fill it with purple to achieve what might be satisfactory results.

My niece has dyslexia. How about asking the author to include this functionality? BTW there's a special font, called Dyslexie, which might also help.

I'm sure you've already read this, but for the peanut gallery, there's this website with lots of tips for supporting dyslexic workers.

As a lot of guys in here know
I have issues with blocks of text
Can't say I have heard of the colour of the text
Being different helps
But just goes to show there's different forms of dyslexia
Other than the classic form people think of
So thanks for that font link
Can't say have ever heard of it

Oh yes. My niece is dyslexic in Roman script but not in Mandarin. And there are people who are dyslexic in Mandarin but not Roman script, and there are people who are dyslexic in both. I imagine - but do not know - that this applies to other scripts too.

That's actually a great point
Just because you have difficulty with roman script
There's other languages such as variety of Asian
And Cyrillic which are totally different to look at

Since I guessed would be more than one
Are all geared to pc
Wouldn't let me use any on my tablet
Even if I requested desktop version of website

Am guessing somewhere there's an equivalent of it

it has some general overview.
it wasnt to clear to me if you had it installed and it didnt activeate or it was downloaded but not installed.

there are definatly differant forms of it.
i was veey lucky to have been picked up at an early age,
at a time it wasnt a thing, or just becoming a thing in the uk.
we didnt have much at that time except extra classes, and a whp

Thanks all for the help. Due to the way the app works the only colour modification can be made in the printer driver and I’ve not been able to find that option. There is a tab that allows colour modification but this only applies to images and not text.

The solution was to use coloured paper as this apparently has the same effect as changing the colour of the text

That does make sense, as I've heard of using yellow paper to make things easier to read.

plot styles may have been a thing. but yer not great support in general for what you want.
plot styles change some of the details printed but i've only seen it on autodesk/bentley products for large scale prints. not on the smaller a4/a3 pinters

Actually only tried the Chrome extension
As my personal usage
It's mostly Internet stuff I get issues with
Since anything I type myself I can
Use my own weird typing style
But will look further into it later on today

And yeah I am old enough
To have had plenty of encounters with the tawse
Back in my school years

Whatever works
And that's a relatively easy solution too
No one needs to mess around with printer settings etc

Now that's clever! I wouldn't have thought of that. So black text on yellow paper is easier for dyslexics to read than black text on white paper?

No idea what colour paper the op
Ended up using

And as already mentioned
Different variations of dyslexia
So black text on say yellow paper might be easier
For some people with dyslexia
But not for others
Me it's not about the colour it's spacing
