Possible to boot into DOS?

Thanks for reply,

No, you need to do it from floppy/usb/cd

What do you need it for?

Nothing in particular. It's just that I updated the bios on a really old laptop recently. I never had any floppies so put the file on a CD and had to burn using 'floppy emulation' in order to get to dos. I was wondering how it worked.

I think the bios came with 'caldera boot strapper' or something, is that the standard 'app' to get into dos?

Also, I said ".....best way to boot a XP system in pure dos mode". Am I right in saying the OS does not matter in the slightest when booting into DOS? i.e it's completely independent of the OS?
I ask only as i'm sure I remember an option in windows 95/98 to "restart in dos mode"??

Thanks,

I found an img/iso file before that you could edit with ultra iso and add your flashing exe and flash file to, I'll try and dig it out

It made a dos bootable cd for you

Cheers for reply Bledd but I did manage to sort the problem out with the bios problem.

I was just wondering about how you get into dos for future reference :)

Barts boot images have helped me out a number of times. Great for booting up ghost cd's to image off dead systems.
