Ok guys i have a XFi fatal1ty soundcard and i was just wandering that on some cases you get a header with say mic and heaphone jack's and i was just curious can you connect them to the actual card in anyway? to save using the front pannel

Im fairly sure its not possible as theres nowhere on the card to connect it.

PS if youre not using the front bay i know a good home for it ;)

I couldnt figure it out either. The pins from the front connectors on my Antec P180 are really loose when conected to the X-Fi.

I have an extension cable for the mic coming from the ports on the back of the soundcard round to the front. I plug the headphones into the X-Fi front bay using a 3.5mm to 1/4 inch converter. I tried plugging my mic into the X-Fi front bay too but it doesnt work.

Ive been thinking the same thing, ive got a coolermaster preatorian 731 case which has the pannel in the top of the case that has headphone and mic sockets.

is this the bit we should be looking at?

1 - Analog Ground
2 - Analog Headphone Out Left
3 - Audio Backpanel Mute -- short to ground to mute the backpanel (when headphones are plugged in)
4 - Analog Headphone Out Right
5 - same as #3
6 - Mic input from front panel
7 - key pin (shouldn't be there)
8 - VREF out -- voltage reference for Mic
9 - MIC IN MUTE -- ground when mic isn't plugged in, +12VDC when mic is plugged in
10 - Audio cable detect -- will be ground when headphones are plugged in (not normally used)

ill have a look in abit anyway at the pins in my case and the connectors

i got the audigy2 zs and ill give it a try later on also
was thinking of doing ages ago but never got round to it should be the same on a xfi card

the cable connectors from my case are

GND
MIC-IN

R-OUT
R-RET
(these 2 both come from the same cable)

L-OUT
L-RET
(these 2 both come from the same cable)

RET probably means return, so I presume it is ground. Tie both R-RET, L-RET and ground together and fix to analog ground on the card. You need that VREF out to use the mic though, that is the power supply line for the most common electret based pc mics/headset mics. The pin for it should read about 5v with reference to ground if you have a DMM.

kk speaking to robbo from chilledpc, and he seems to think that it is possible to connect it, but think i'l just have to suck it and see, unless any1's going to be a guinea pig?

hahah okily dokily now all i need is to get rid of my akasa eclipse and get a new case, going for the aerocool 3T with 25cm side fan and 14cm intake fan :D should be able to keep the pwmic area cool with those puppies ;)
