Just about to upgrade kifs PC to win7 which will involve reinstalling lots of games etc. Some are pretty old and I know from recent experience some have ancient installers which clearly never anticipated >2GB of RAM as they tell me that my 4GB setup has insufficient RAM. Found this out when had to reinstall something a few weeks ago ... pulling out a DIMM so the install is done with only 2GB works but I wondered is there any "software" way (with BIOS or perhaps a windows setting/option) to get windows to only consider it has 2GB of RAM available ... that way I'd avoid having to remove/replace DIMMs.

Any ideas

It is possible to limit the RAM available to Windows without resorting to removing DIMMs. Click start, and type msconfig, then press enter. On the boot tab, click "Advanced Options...", then in the top right click the checkbox next to "Maximum memory", and enter 2048 in the box below, then click OK.

Brilliant ... felt sure there would be an option like this somewhere but didn't know where to start looking. Will give this a spin.

Thanks
