My brother needs a new laptop & would be a fairly light user. He needs something for basic office tasks, burning CDs, photos & web browsing. He's not a gamer at all so a high spec machine is not required. Just wondering, it is possible to get a modest new or refurb laptop for £200? He's not interested in netbooks as they are just too small.

Not sure where to start looking so would be grateful for some OCUK advice. Thanks.

You may be able to get a refurb, but generally the price for laptops is around £297. As you say, netbooks are not great. However, we would not be able to link anywhere as they would be a competitor to OcUK!

Thanks everyone. I have had a chance to have a good look around & it is possible to get a refurb for around £225. BTW where is members market? Not appearing on my list of topics on this forum.

I'd get a refurb Toshiba 13.3" T130 if I were you, whilst not the fastest they're fine for web browsing and have a huge (9 hour) battery life, quite slim and light too.

Intel Pentium single core SU2700.
1.3GHz processor speed.
2MB cache.
3GB memory.
320GB hard drive.
Display features:
13.3in widescreen display.
Graphics:
Intel GMA with 4500M graphics card.

Comes in at just under £220

Or, if battery life is less of a concern than power there's the Toshiba L630-12U, £210.

Processor Type: Intel Pentium P6000
Processor speed: 1.86GHz mhz
Memory Size: 3GB mb
Memory Type: DDR3
Hard Drive Capacity: 320 Gb

Edit: Missed the burning CDs bit, the first one doesn't have an optical drive but the second has a DVD-RW.

Read the FAQ. You need to configure your trust and then you'll be able to access it.

Possibly the strangest place to look, but you will get a E-Machines laptop from Next for £175 in their sale. They did have a half decent Acer for £249.
or its £199 at a Green Supermarket, or google laptop under £200 and you will find a site with loads.
