Hello,

I work in the public sector, and our internet is provided through the NHS. The NHS uses a secure connection for data protection purposes. This is maintained and provided by BT.

Recently we have been experiencing internet outages, and this doesn't affect just our building, as the internet connection provided from NHS is distributed across 400+ services, all of which are affected.

I was wondering, is it possible for a "back up" connection to be switched on for when the connection fails at one exchange?

Thanks for your help...

You're probably working on a vpn so you may be limited on what you can do for a backup.

Backups basically are another connection to the net or 3g dongle. Now there are pitfalls to both.. another connection will likely go through the same exchange, which may cause you to have the same outages, and 3g obviously has bandwidth constraints.

However realistically the best course of action is to get bt to look at the hardware/exchange if you're having that many outages.

I'd guess you are running some kinda of managed service from BT, so lsg1r is right, you need to report these back to BT and they need to sort them asap.
