is it possible to have both gtx480 and gtx680 in the same system, reason being had a gtx560 used it for light gaming crunching and general work duties, some photo & video editing. I wanted to increase my seti scores alittle but dont want to be building a second rig at present so was thinking of having the 480 for crunching and the 680 for gaming etc. Spoke to Toxic and he suggested to ask you guys alittle more about it how do i go about setting up both cards for seti more so the 480

Last time i tried the 4 series cards were not recognised when mixed due to driver issues - but this was a few driver versions down the line.

I've not tried with the latest drivers......

Morning Scott :)

Whichever card your using for crunching go into the app_info which is in

C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu blah blah etc

Once you have opened the app_info with notepad only where gpu instances show >1< change it to >.5< which is telling it to run 2 instances per that gpu looks summat like this

PHP:
 <max_ncpus>0.05</max_ncpus>
        <plan_class>ati13ati</plan_class>
        <cmdline>-period_iterations_num 20 -instances_per_device 1</cmdline>
        <coproc>
            <type>ATI</type>
            <count>1</count>
        </coproc>
        <file_ref>
            <file_name>MB6_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_ATi_HD5_r390.exe</file_name>
            <main_program/>
        </file_ref>
        <file_ref>
            <file_name>Mul

To do more than one WU per card you would need the optimized clients and a custom app_info.xml in your BOINCDATA\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu folder.

If you install the optimized windows client it creates an app_info.xml for you, they you just need to change the instances of:
<type>CUDA</type>
<count>1</count>

To <count>0.5</count> for two per card and 0.333 for three per card.

Optimized clients from here: http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;catd=9

Run something like MSI Afterburner and you can see which one is crunching by the GPU usage and temps

cheers guys going to let it run overnight see how it goes 480 sitting with 3 tasks temps sitting at 74 the 680 got 3 tasks temps sitting at 68, noisy toys fans are sitting at 82% & 75%

will do going to fit the waterblock back onto the 480 and get block ordered for the 680 sounds like its about to take off at the moment swear its levitating lol

:D we've all been there i am scouting about for waterblocks managed to get the 590 and 6990 playing great together so dont mind investing in blocks, there again a good air cooled case like a lian li would help a lot ... more expense tut tut tut :)
