I've only had my copy of Windows 7 a few months and I am getting a set of completely new hardware tomorrow. Will it be possible for me to uninstall Windows on my current PC and reinstall it on that one? I heard that they tie activation to your hardware which I think is slightly unfair.

It appears to be an OEM copy :( I didnt know there was a difference when I bought it...sigh

Do you think Microsoft support would give me a new product key or is that wishful thinking?

Is it me or do they totally not specify that in the product description? I dont really understand if it's my fault for not thinking to research it before I bought it in the first place but I cant help feeling slightly scammed by this...

Guess I cant really blame anyone else, but I do wish they could make it more clear in the product description on the difference between retail and OEM for noobs like me.

So basically I have to uninstall it from this computer, get into the installation process on my new one, and THEN phone support up and ask if they will provide me with an activation code? It will be fun having them reject me and being stuck inbetween processes.. grr

EDIT: I suppose I could phone up in advance and write the code down if they give it, then theres no harm done right?

When you click to activate it will fail and tell you to phone them, it should give you a code there.

ok thankyou mate. should I leave windows installed on my other PC while I go through the other installation process or should I uninstall it?
