Possible to resinstall with upgrade disc

hey all, i have just installed a new motherboard and to my suprise, the pc bsod everytime after the first windows screen. I was advised that i would need to reinstall windows but the problem is, is that i only have the upgrade disc for windows 7 as i upgraded from windows vista.

tl;dr can i reinstall windows 7 from the upgrade disc?

I would have thought you'd have to reinstall vista then upgrade it to 7?

You're supposed to upgrade from the previous OS, but you can just use the upgrade media.
