I may take a chance with the 20.1" NEX GX2 just to keep me happy until 23" versions appear, Iam not going to touch anything but A/S-IPS. If I try the monitor for a couple days Iam assuming I cant return it even if I pay a restocking fee.

I would have thought you can return it up to 14days under the distance selling act assuming it's returned in "as new" condition.

I could be wrong though

distance selling act gives you 7 days from recipt of the item .Interpretation of the act varies and was amended in 2005 . I wouldnt rely on it.

As you mentioned, AS-IPS is definitely the hot stuff but I'm slightly worried about that wait as it may take a while. Couple of weeks ago, I received the following response from Christopher Parker, NEC GX2 Product Manager, about the larger screen versions (many users asked the same question):

"
no concrete plans. A 24inch would be the next logical step..... Mmmm, we're thinking about GX3 for next year, 2007, and a 24W would be nice. But it would need to be discussed first and the US have to agree. So currently, no plans.....
"
... and after that from NEC Display Solutions UK:

"
but we are releasing a 24" Wide later this year on the Corporate range so I think there is a chance this could be a possibility for the GX range - I will keep you posted if I hear any further updates !
"

I'm particularly keen to see more info about the GX3 range, for the 2007 ;)

Anyhow, back to the subject ... release dates are really far from known and that may be a long wait. Not sure about the other manufactures, but we've already seen the major refresh cycle couple of months ago. Related to your question, yes, if you are keen to have as-ips panel now, you may play with the 20" version for the time being until the time is right for the large screen upgrade. Also, I'm definitely expecting the price premium on such models. On the other hand, yes, you may play with the monitor until the distance selling regulation time is in place, but after that is no go.

what gets me is that the LG Philips 23" AS-IPS LCD module is available. Two confirmed sources one of which actually has a production model LM230WU3 (no casing, just LCD module with invertor and backlight) of the panel since xmas.
True. I discovered the same thing month ago. So, yes, LCD module is ready but what is holding back the thing that module still didn't "evolved" into the monitor product ... not sure really.

saw this one aswell, basicaly its waiting for now. IMO its Apple who will use the panel 1st, the 30" (which was updated a few weeks back) is using LG's new panel. Iam thinking the following:

Apple 20" LM201W01
Apple 23" LM230WU3
Apple 30" LM300W01 (which is allready being used in the 30")
