Possible to upgrade storage? (Laptop)

Hi there, I've recently purchased this laptop as I'm in desperate need of one for university work, it's not by any means a desktop replacement or something that I want to max games with or anything..

However I've heard it may be possible to add an SSD to this laptop?

I currently use on my desktop where I got W7 installed and it's brilliant, boots in less than 15 seconds so I'd really like to have something similar with this laptop.

I read somewhere online that you could, but the manufacturer's warranty would be voided or something, and that I could somehow replace the blu-ray drive with an SSD with some kind of adapter.

Can anyone help?

Much appreciated.

edit: forgot to link the laptop.... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-114-MS

You haven't said which laptop it is?

But yes some adapter will most likely be available if you want an SSD as a second drive in place of the optical drive

Usually the front panel of the optical drive can be clipped onto the adapter if I remember correctly

as above you need to know which model as you need a replacement optical drive "bay" for the SSD to fit to, then the bay fits in the place of your optical drive, in this case your blu-ray drive.

i did this on my laptop, google for your laptop "like dell replacement optical drive ssd" or something, see if someone made a tutorial for it.

i use an external USB drive if i ever need to use CD's/DVD's.

ps. good choice, one of the best upgrades you can make with a laptop. people to this day still underestimate the use of an SSD in a machine.

thanks for your help mate :)

Can't guarantee it, but I'm fairly sure any one will do any they're not laptop specific, as the front plate from your CD drive can be clipped or glued on to the caddy

We got a random cheap one from the internet the other day at work and did exactly this as HP wanted too much for the genuine adapter.

If you look at some pics, and compare it to that MSI one, they all look similar and seem to have the connections in the same place
