possible to use laoptop as access point

i have my laptop conected to wireless router down stairs but wondering is it possible to conect my PC to the laptop to get internet ?
the pc dont have a wireless card atm tho i have one ordered so just short term to it gets delivered

laptop on vista and pc on windows 7

Do you mean connecting the PC to the laptop via a cable, so in some sort of sense, the laptop is in tethering mode?

I believe you need to enable Internet Conncection Sharing on the laptop, then use a crossover cable to connect the two. In theory it should work...

Well I know you need a crossover cable to connect two PCs directly to enable fire sharing between the two, but not sure if that's the case for internet sharing. Just give it a go and see what happens. Might also depend on the network cards?

Technically, you always need a crossover cable between devices of the same type. So Switch -> Switch = Crossover.
Client -> Client = Crossover.
etc.

So you will require a crossover cable to get a connection between the two machines.

If the DHCP is relayed (really not sure if it will or won't be in this scenario) then that should be all you have to do.
