Possible upgrade advice

Hi all.

Been pondering on whether to upgrade my pc for a while and been seriously thinking about it recently. I don't have any trouble with any games I play (overwatch, modern warfare, WoW) but thinking about upgrading firstly just for the sake of it and secondly to slightly improve FPS where applicable, especially with so many new games coming out soonish that I will want to play. For examples sake, modern warfare currently runs at around 80-90 FPS on low-mid ish settings.

Just looking for advice on a) whether it's worth upgrading at all and b) a mid-budget option on where/what to upgrade

My build currently is:

Asus H110M-R mobo
I7-7700 CPU
GeForce 1060 3gb graphics (I realise this is probably my first port of call for upgrades due to low memory)
Titan Dragonfly CPU cooler
8gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 RAM
Corsair VS650 PSU
2x Samsung 860 Evo 250gb SSD

I realise I'm limited to what I can do with current mobo, been looking at several new motherboard options should I want to upgrade.

Firstly, could you advise whether it's even worthwhile upgrading (new mobo, CPU, gfx etc) or just to wait until it becomes completely outdated. Secondly, which budget-mid mobo/CPU chipsets ?

Thanks in advance.

You would likely gain more fps by upgrading your Gpu to a rtx 30 series when they come out than a CPU upgrade. A 16 gb ram kit would probably help also as its cutting it fine with just 8gb

Maybe wait till Zen 3 and grab a 4700x and a B550 as this should last for many years.

Thanks for your reply. Been looking at increasing ram size. Just a shame speeds are capped at 2133mhz with current mobo but can't see it making a world of difference?

Just had a read up of Zen 3. Definitely food for thought!

Pretty sure it will run faster ram it's just it's not officially supported. If you was planning to go ryzen then getting a good 3600mhz ram now even if you had to run it at 2133 for then time being then it would carry over nicely to a zen 3 system.

Interesting - will definitely invest in some. Any recommendations?

This ram is very good and top tier Samsung B-die but is a little more pricey than just the standard stuff.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £148.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

This one is a budget friendly option so it really depends on what your looking to spend.

Was looking at getting more Corsair Vengeance - no good?? Out of the two I'd have to go with cheaper option as can't warrant spending that much on ram for a currently budgety system!

You got a few options if you wanted to stick with corsair vengeance although if you want to carry the ram over to a ryzen system then 3000mhz is the minimum speed you should go with.

I apologise for my lack of knowledge. Is there much difference? Not looking to go top spec so 3200mhz would definitely suffice. I guess I'm just looking at the disparity between the brands? As the Vulcan are a tad cheaper would I get lesser performance when compared to Corsair for example?

Thinking I might buy some ram for now and buy a new GPU in the coming weeks? Or would you recommend doing it the other way around? Can't really warrant buying both right now.

I
The 3200mhz corsair and Vulcan Rams have exactly the same timings so performance should be on par, the corsair likely costs a bit more as your paying for the brand name.

If you can hold off till around the new year you would be able to get an rtx 3060 which should offer around rtx 2080 performance and much better Ray tracing for a similar price to the rtx 2060 cards. If you can't wait that long then a Gpu upgrade now should still give a fairly decent bump even with your current CPU.

I'll wait til new year and look into getting a new mobo/CPU/GPU setup. Or just the GPU in the first instance.

I'll give it a few weeks in that case and invest in the b-die ram you linked. Probably pay for itself in the long run. Appreciate all your help!
