My mate purchased a PC from *competitor!* about three to four years ago. All he does on his computer is surf the inet, and a bit of office stuff that is, typing and spreadsheets. It runs pukka slow! The usual symptoms. His specs I asked him to give me over the phone through CPU Z are:
AMD Athlon (thunderbird) 1.3 Ghz
Microstar IMC MS-6511 with BIOS v. 07.00t 115
SD RAM 128MBs
20Gb HDD (probably the older 5,600 rpm)
Windows 2000
I'm not going to upgrade him to XP because he's happy with 2000. He's got around £30 - £40. I recommended 512mb RAM module on top of the 128Mb one he's got (he's not got dual channal so 2*256s would be pointless).
He's got Norton "Resource Hog" security suite. I've gone on his computer and it takes 10 mins just to scan at start up
So that's going to save RAM. I'll clean his system up of any spyware or nasties but that's for the Windows forum.
I really don't create threads like these as i'm never in here. I usually know what to do. I say get 512Mb RAM module, before I do get it for him. What do you guys say?
Cheerio
Edit: Ooops. Didn't know it was classed as a competitor as they're so bad at computers!
