Hi I just got a good deal on a 3080ti so im thinking i may need to upgrade the rest of my computer

I currently have a 9700k Overclocked to 5ghz and im worried it will bottleneck

I play most games at 1440p and hoping to run on high/ultra settings at a good framerate 100+ if possible

Would a 13600k/13700k and Z790 be worth getting? or is there a easier upgrade , I thought about a 9900k as an option too

Hi

I would just try the i7 that you have currently for a while and see if it can deal with the games you like at the settings you can deal with. I recently moved from an i9 9900k to a 5800x3d with a 3080 and hardly saw any big improvement.

A move to an i9 9900k might help due to the extra cores slightly but the 13600k/13700k would see a bigger improvement I imagine, but would the cost of a whole new motherboard and cpu be worth the extra fps?

Of course, another viewpoint is to sell your present cpu and motherboard now whilst it still has some value and use this money to upgrade. Sorry, i'm not helping much.

13600K/13700K are a decent improvement, yes, but as said above: I'd just try it out with what you have first.

A 5 Ghz coffee 8 core is decent enough for good performance in most games, especially if you want to use high/ultra settings which will push the load onto the GPU.

Agree with @Tetras - I would recommend simply giving it a go and see how you feel it runs.

Not sure what card you're swapping out, but you could give it a little time to try out. And then consider any upgrades, but you should certainly see a decent improvement upgrading to 13th gen. And might even see some of their prices drop a bit further by that time.
