I've started having BSOD recently , went all around the houses looking for software conflicts and when not finding anything software related I stated looking at the hardware.

I started by testing the ram using Memtest86+ and immediately had tons of errors.
I tried each stick independently in slot 1 and to my surprise they passed.

So, If I fill slot 1 and 2 I get errors in Memtest but non with either stick running by themselves. Does this suggest slot 2 of the mobo has gone bad ?

Thanks.

Edit: OK after some further testing running 3 and 4 slots in dual channel I get the same errors. So this is only happening in dual channel mode. :/

I bought this Mobo in mid October last year, will it still be under warranty?

Cheers.

What cooler have you got strapped on top of your CPU? (Also what's the rest of your spec and age of parts?)

If it's a large cooler it may be that it's warped your board slightly making some of your DIMM slots unreliable.

If it is a large screw on cooler - try loosening all the screws and then tightening them bit by bit (using the diagonal method) and this time don't fully tighten them for now. Then go into the BIOS to check your temps are OK - and if they are then run your memtest tests again.

I'm only using the standard intel cooler that come with the i5. I've not really overclocked other than use XMP and temps are respectable.

Everything was bought and put together October last year and ran perfectly until this issue reared its head. Nothings changed in my setup hardware-wise either.

I've also tried setting bios to optimized defaults, setting memory voltage manually to 1.65v and enable-disable the XMP.

All made no difference to dual channel giving me errors. :/

What bios version are you on? I was having some problems with my ap-d3 on f2 and an update to the f6 (and later f7e beta) fixed them..

I would try resetting the CMOS first and see what that yields - remember to trun off the compuer at the wall when doing this. And then load optimised defaults straight after before entering your old values.

If that doesn't work i would try sehcure suggestion of flashing the BIOS - as yours may have become corrrupted or is suffereing from compatibility issues. Again, be sure to clear the CMOS after a successful BIOS flash...

If all that fails post back...

Been using F6 from when I built it.
I had noticed the betas but wasn't to keen to try them tbh.

What problem did they solve that you we're having?

Thanks Plec I'll try that and get back to you.

what about the memory speed ? 1600mhz or 1333mhz ?

Have you tried setting this to the correct speed manually and playing about with it ?

Yes tried both 1600 and 1333 and tried manual settings and still getting no errors showing up in memtest when the sticks are tested individually.

I reset CMOS downloaded and installed bios, booted into memtest instant errors again.

But!!, this morning I booted up windows with one stick that I'd been testing the previous night and found the PC was extremely sluggish. Apps taking ages to load, mouse pointer freezing in place for split seconds and even some audio pops (no BSOD tho!). So I Changed to the other stick, booted and it ran as smooth as silk.

So looks like it's a dodgy stick of ram after all :o but still very strange i'm not seeing anything in memtest86 :/

Been looking at rma details and they're in the Netherlands :(

Are you running the very latest release of memtest and how long are you running the test for?

Ideally let the test run overnight, on the suspect stick, as it can sometimes take a few complete passes for a corrupt stick to show up an error. Also, make sure you're running the stick at optimum settings when running the test.

Don't worry about this - the turn around is usally less than 10 days. I returned a Corsair PSU last year and had a replacement back within 7 days.

I believe its the latest memtest (4.0a) and the test ran untill 100% (3hrs or so)

OK, I'll try the test for much longer and hopefully it will pick something up!

Cheers.
