Possiblefirst time build

Hi everyone, just looking for a bit of advice. I'm looking for a new desktop that has upgrade potential so it can last for several years. Budget is about £500-£550. I'm quite keen to get an I5 ivybridge (for no perticular reason though, if someone has a good argument against it.)

I have installed hard drives / RAM / Video cards into previous desktops, but I've never build from scratch before. Is it that much harder, and is the saving worth it?

I have monitor / keyboard / mouse. I also have Windows 7 on my current laptop - is it possible to just get the product key using key finder software and install the same windows 7 on a new PC?

pre build is a good one if paired with a good card it will last

What are you uses?

For gaming that desktop is a good start though you'd need to add a better GPU..

If not gaming (just general work and such, that'd do fine, though is a bit overkill..

Id like it to run some games, but not perticularly demanding ones (Diablo 3, unreal tournment 3). My main concern is upgradability to future proof it for as long as possible.

Nice build there if poss I would throw in a SSD even a small one the difference is very noticeable

question is, do you have a current pc you could use some parts from at all? might save a few pennies then enable you to get the ssd with out the extra cost

I don't sadly, my last computer was a laptop.
