Possibly a silly question - new nikon d40x user

Hi all

Just purchased a new Nikon D40x on tuesday and have been messing about with it. Ive noticed that after I take some picture and view them on the lcd screen there is a problem with white portions.

Bit hard to explain but for example, if I take a shot where there is a large white object, when I view it in the lcd it switch's bettween white and black, just on that section? Almost like a colour clash on old computers.

Any idea's?

Pressing up and down on the joypad will cycle through the photo information options. The one its on at the moment is "highlights", meaning that any over exposed (blown out - no detail) areas will flash.
