Hey

I've had my current computer (a self build) since 2009 and it's extremely slow and old. I could upgrade but it's not really worth it and I kind of want a new one anyway!

I don't currently play any games but I would like to, or at least have the option to. I do some image editing in Lightroom/Photoshop. Nothing too taxing, but the games obviously would require higher specs.

I was thinking about this:

CPU
Intel Core i7 6700k 4ghz socket 1151 - £287

Picked this motherboard quite quickly, difficult to choose between other models and brands.

Graphics Card

I honestly picked this at random pretty much as I don't know what I need.

RAM

16gb (2x8gb modules) - Corsair Vengeance - DDR4 PC4-22400 3000mhz - total £66.99

I did consider getting 32gb but I've read there isn't much noticable difference between 16 and 32.

Monitor

I currently have a 24" monitor but definitely would like a bigger one.

Storage

1x Samsung 850 EVO 1TB 2.5inch SSD - £246

Still surprised it's that much for a 1TB - do I need one that big?

The computer I plan to build will have several 1TB HDD in which are currently in use on the old machine and where I store most documents and things.

Other things

DVD - I have a dvd writer in my old machine which I will re-use
Keyboard - would like a wireless one but not really looked yet
Mouse - as above
Sound card - will re-use one from current computer
PSU - plan to get a 600w one
Case - I've looked and will get one worth about £40-50
Operating system - I plan to buy Windows 10 home addition

Most likely you've posted links to a competitor's website and OCUK have added them to the foul language filter so it's starred them out like it would were you to swear.
You can post links to manufacturer's sites - so you could post a link to Intel's page on the CPU - and I'm sure OCUK are very happy if you want to post links to products on their own store but posting links to someone else's store is definitely on the forbidden list.

16GB of RAM will be plenty unless you're planning to do something like video editing.

A 980Ti will be good for max settings on most current games. It is about to be topped by the 1080 that's due soon....but how soon, what the price will be and whether it'll work properly for the first month is anyone's guess.

1TB SSD is going to be expensive. Nice if you can afford it but otherwise you can go 512GB or even 256GB and store any larger stuff on a normal hard disk.
You could also go M.2 with a Samsung 950 Pro as they look really tidy without any cables trailing round the place. Add a normal hard disk for bulk storage if you need it.

I will probably get a smaller SSD - maybe 250gb as I really can't justify spending £250+ on a 1TB one.

As for graphics card - I think my limit is in the region of £500 is my limit. I'd like that to be able to handle any of the games on the market, and be able to play games in the next 2-3 years. I hope that's realistic as I think it's a fair amount to spend.

Does the monitor seem alright to you?

Monitor is fine for gaming but you might want to look into G-Sync. Some people rave about the difference and others are not impressed. It adds to the price of a monitor though.

If you can wait until after the 1080s are available the price may come down but it may take a while until existing stock is depleted and also 1080s are easily available.
