Earlier in the year a fence panel blew through and a few others are on the way out, so they need replacing. I was busy at the time, so was happy to get someone in and I had about 4 people around to quote and all bar one didn't get back to me; the one that did quote didn't come and do the job after I agreed to his quote... Chased him ~4 times and I gave up after that... it's been really helpful... we've not argued on the price or timescale, so we've been scratching our heads at the problem.
We have concrete posts already in place, so it's just fitting the panels. I originally thought it was people not interested in a low-value/profit job, but after measuring up the posts, I wonder if they've not been interested because it's possibly a little annoying. All the posts are about 6'1" - 6'2" apart, and thus why the panel blew out, there's so little engagement each side. It even looks like the gravel boards at the bottom could be wiggled out of the posts, if desired... So, what does anyone suggest to do?
I can order complete panels and drop them in myself, but I can't see how that's going to last, if they're barely held, or will look bad with extra bits of shim to try to hold them in place.
Or, I could build my own panels - I'm thinking of 3 or 4 horizontal 47x47mm battens, cut to be snug within the concrete post slot, and then screw on 100x20mm vertical planks (spaced and stepped on both sides to allow wind to blow through, instead of overlapping featherboard - as we get a lot of wind where we are). But... While in my head, this should work (i think), a quick look at material cost, it's a lot more than just off the shelf panels...
