Post-Apocalyptic Films

This subject/genre of film really interests me, but it never seems to be done a lot and, as such, I can't find anything to add to my ScreenSelect list.

Maybe you guys can recommend something to me. I've seen The Quiet Earth, but because it's so cheap and nasty, I found it very hard to enjoy or take seriously.

What else is there?

I'm not hot on films, but would "12 Monkeys" count? Or "28 Days Later"?

Threads is really really excellent. Can't recommend it enough. Getting harder to find it around now though.

How about all of hte Mad Max films, better on DVD where they don't butcher the plot (thanks for that BBC).

I was always impressed by Pauline Quirke's role in The Elephant Man; a complete travesty that she didn't get an Oscar for that one...

that reminds me of a tv show a few years ago on telly, but i cant for the life of me remember its name. Its about a bunch of people that get stuck or frozen on a train that is in the middle of a tunnel for like a gazillion years. Can anyone remember what it was called?

I'm the local threads adovocate.

I'm always pimping it on here as it scared the crap out of me and attributed to my depression a few years back

Anyway, as far as hard to find goes, its recently been re-released on DVD and you can even get it in HMV now.

Don't expect to sleep afterwards though, watch it in the daytime (seriously)
