post build addition of RAID 1 array for NAS

I am interested in doing away with the poor quality NAS servers you can buy and put two additional disks in RAID 1 on my next build as storage post build which would behave in a similar fashion as a NAS server. How could this be done using debian?

Yes, I would be looking to use software raid. Okay, thanks for the information link to Logical Volume Manager. Any idea how to use it or a good tutorial to what I need to do explicitly?
 
Thanks for the link but can someone give me some kind of help so I do not have to read an epic document? What would be helpful is an example directed towards my situation of setting up an additional RAID 1 storage post build? Surely there must be some command line arguments that can be used right? Is there an easy gui tool which I can use?
 
Looks like I will have to do some reading. I will post back regarding how I do this so that other forum members can benefit.
