My brother (who has only had his licence for a month) was hit in a car park by some blind idiot who came round a corner too quickly. My bro (in a 1.6 Golf) was sitting still waiting for someone to reverse out of a space when the other car came round the corner and smacked into the right rear of the golf taking the rear door and right wheel arch/body panel out with it.

My brother and my dad went to a couple of garages round in Surrey and the cheapest they were quoted for the work (the door and panel need complete replacing apparently, I havent actually seen the damag) was £1,500 (mind you, this is on a £5.5k golf, seems a bit high to me!).

We've never had to make an insurance claim so we aren't really sure what to do. We've got fully comp with Tesco - do we even need to get them involved? I was hoping someone could give me an outline of what should happen in the next weeks or so...

Did you have any independant witnesses to the incident?

A similar thing happened to a mate while I was in the car with him and the woman who hit his car denied the insurance claim made against her! My statement didn't count as I worked with him and there were no independant witnesses.

As the crash was in our company car park (where officially his insurance didn't apply) the insurers took 6 months to decide a 50/50 verdict

Some people will do anything to avoid losing their NCB..scum!

I know the parents of the kid who hit my bro so they won't be getting away that easily!

You call your insurance company and report the accident without delay. They should take care of everything for you as you are fully comp. If there is any dispute as to who's at fault, the insurance companies will argue among themselves while in the meantime your car gets fixed regardless.

As he says above. Phone your insurance company and give them all the details and get them to sort it out. Thats what you pay them for. Your (or your brother is) clearly in the right, so you've nothing to worry about.

Your insurers will inform you of all the steps that you need to take to sort the problem out as quickly as possible!

Never had any experiences with Tesco, but I've heard there not too bad! :)
