ive been using my 20d for a short while now and finding that the results straight from the camera a little flat.

after some reading i understand that i need to do post processing with my pictures to get the best from them. (photoshop)

can someone give some ideas of the basic stuff i should be doing ? and/or point me in the direction of some good reading to explain it to me..

thank you.

If you want to start simple then, start playing with the auto options to see if they make a likeable difference.

Start by doing the auto levels, auto colour and auto contrast. They dont always produce satisfactory results.
To lighten areas you feel are to dark, fiddle with curves, youl see the adjustments at work, and pick it up pretty quickly.

Changing the contrast manually, and the saturation can make a difference.
