Hi everyone,
I turned on My computer tonight and it booted fine but it said it had no internet so I thought I'll reboot, but when I did the computer failed to boot and it's now showing a Post code of 00, I recently upgraded My gfx card to an Rtx 4090 and also upgraded My psu to a Corsair Rm1000x my motherboard is an Asus TOG Maximus XII hero Lga 1200, my cpu is an i9-10900k
I've been having a few problems since I upgraded mainly that I couldn't get into the bios screen, I have posted on the general thread about this but now this, I have no idea what is happening now I've read online that it's the cpu or else the mobo but I've no idea, hope you can help

yup.....sory.....00 generally means dead CPU or Motherboard.

but theres a couple of things you can try, try a bios reset and if that doesnt work, take the CPU out and check the pins in the socket.

Are you sure you've connected all the correct cables required from your new PSU.

Thanks guys, the pc has been running for about a month or more since I upgraded, I don't think its the cpu as I haven't touched it since I bought the pc, as for the cables I don't think I'm using any of the old cables but I now can't be 100% sure, because when I first installed the psu I think I did leave in some of the old sata cables I think because I thought "what's the harm" but I looked at them and changed them I hope ☺
Is there any way of differentiating between the mobo and the cpu ?

Pull the memory out reset the bios by taking the battery out an using the juper pins on the motherboard.

Then use one stick of money after putting the battery back.

@mickyflinn did that and still getting 00 on post, one thing though I can't see the jumper for the bios, this board has the button at the back of the board for resetting the bios ?

One thing I did do is I removed the water block from the cpu and held my finger on the cpu and turn on the computer as I read year's ago that one way to check for a defective cpu was to do this and if it's working it will heat up very quickly but after turning on the computer the cpu remained cold.

That not only sounds like a bad idea to me and easy way to kill your CPU, the CPU wouldnt get warm if the motherboard was dead either.

About the only way to find out if its the board or CPU would be to get hold of another CPU and try it in your board.

Never use cables from another PSU, even if your old PSU was made by the same company, the pinouts are nearly always different, another way to kill things easily.

As mickyflinn said, try the pins on the motherboard, if you have a button on the back of the board, turn all power off and remove the power cord, hold that button in for at least 15 seconds, then switch back on and try again, ive had a flick through your motherboard manual and cant see any jumper pins on the board itself.

@Jamin280672 thanks for the help yeah it does sound like a risky way of testing lol, I have sent for another cpu so I will know hopefully on Monday or Tuesday at the latest which is at fault, as regards to the cables the only cables that might be in question would be the sata cables, the old psu was a 750 watt semi modular watt corsair the new psu is a 1000 watt corsair modular, I think I have used all the new cables but at this stage I have no way of knowing
I've tried holding the button at the back for over 15 seconds but still nothing, so I guess the only thing I can do now is wait, the strange thing is I've had no problems with this computer before I upgraded then after the upgrades it wouldn't let me see the bios screen it jumped straight to the Windows screen and also when I powered off the computer the fans and the lights stayed on, I did manage to get into the bios screen by switching to hdmi from display port and changed the aura settings but this made no difference the only way to get the computer to power down completely was to hold in the on off button until the computer switched off completely.

Just checked the manual and there isn't a clear CMOS jumper , my apologies.

Try removing the battery again makes sure you unplug power from the wall and leave for a while if not already done this.

I had this same error code about 2 years ago.
Was taking the cpu out to reseat it and twisted the socket slightly and thought damn thats gonna be dead for certain now.
Rebuilt it and booted fine and has worked ever since with no issues.
So its possible its just a bad connection between cpu and socket.

I took out the cpu to check it as you know the intel socket has no pins so I replaced it also removed the mobo to check it and then restarted the PC but alas still the 00 post :(
As I said I've ordered a new cpu i9-10900k so we will see, if it boots all well and good :) but if not I'll know it's the mobo :(
