I had my timing belts changed a few days ago on my mkiv golf, anyway...On the invoice the mechanic had left a note at the bottom asking me to not stress the engine too much for around 200 miles to allow the belts to 'bed in'. I do not recall being asked to do such a thing last time this was done, is it really necessary?

Oh sorry, I thought you said chain, if it's a belt then I guess it would bed in slightly but I don't think it will make much difference.

Out of interest, how much did this set you back?

Only because I had mine done on my MKIV Golf recently.

Arse covering exercise TBH

Not that was even worth writing because iif it breaks it breaks and it'll wreck the engine either way :D

Strange request, never heard that mentioned before. As said, the belt is toothed and tensioned so there shouldn't be any 'give' in it at all.

I gave mine hell after picking it up from a timing belt change - no problems to speak of.
