Post your bikes thread

haha brilliant! just not keen on the sparkles lol but each to their own :)

Just been out for a ride tonight, was good fun roads are so warm now :) And well pleased got both my knees down on the road now haha :D been wanting to get my left on the road for a while :p and it was only my body position soon sorted that! then literally 20 seconds later the heavens open and I got soaked in my leathers going home :( rain was so heavy it hurt my arms lol!

"Just got back from a hoon. Quick! To the internet and post on every bike-related thread." :D

I must say that riding bikes are a lot of fun.

The trip back home, after work, is probably the highlight of my day. Driving cars in highly populated areas just doesnt have the same impact.

You know I never have! Sometimes use the premium stuff but never noticed any difference, I think now I have the fueling right I might try some V power stuff though, would like it for track but a jerry can and full bike is gunna cost :p

I don't notice any difference in power on my bike with v-power but it does start a lot better on it, definitely. it fires into life on the button on v-power (or ultimate) yet will take 2-3 goes on normal stuff. worth it for easy starting i reckon :D plus it'll often give me a friendly little backfire to remind me how bad*** it is ;D

I had a 172 as well at the time, I just fancied trying a 4 stroke (210) as well.

Hehe thats awesome.
I love Italjets, I had a Formula 125 Twin that I had tuned, it went like dung off a stick :)

If I use this more expensive fuel on my Yam Fazer 600 would it make any difference then ? as just normally put normal unleaded in.

If it's fuel injected it should make a difference.. most bikes ship from factory running rich, the higher octane fuel will only lean this up a little but extract abit more from engine.

I guess these tiny changes are more noticable on a bike than car due to weight, here is what shell say..

Jurys out I guess, but worth a shot :), im only repeating what tuner said, I assume he knows his stuff and says he runs it in R1 and can feel the difference. (and the guy has unlimited free use of a dyno so rekon he's done some testing)

Check Performance Bikes this month for a verdict on high-octane fuels in bikes.

The primary reason for high octane fuels is for engines that require it- octane and it's derivatives as an additive help resist knock/pre-detonation in high compression or forced induction engines.

Having said that the higher octane fuels these days are marketed as performance enhancers, and as such they also have some performance additives in addition to octane boosters, so they serve both purposes. PB found about a horsepower with 98RON, and three horsepower on BP Ultimate 102 (not widely available, and £2.42 a litre). Hardly worth it on the road but well worth it on a race bike as you'd pay a fair amount of wedge to guarantee 3bhp from other tuning methods.

I don't have the article with me but I'll dig it out if anyone's interested (or you could buy the mag!)

EDIT- the test was using a GSX-R 1000 K9.

hum 1bhp aint so good.. think I'll still use it though

At the end of the day if your bike doesn't have a knock sensor (AFAIK only the big bore 4 cylinder BMWs do) then you'll get little or no benefit, i.e. it's designed to run on 95 RON or slightly lower.

In tandem with an ignition advancer (a Power Commander or similar for fuel injected bikes) it makes more sense as you can get enough advance for a beneficial effect (if not an outright gain on a dyno, then at least throttle response) but stave off knock with the higher octane fuel.

Just got a new rear hoop & service on the Falco.

Bad news is I'm going to put it up for sale.

More bad news - I'm going to use my old Fazer again lol

I can't justify having the Falco, when any old commuter will do. It's a great bike, I really love it....but the running costs are silly compared to the Fazer & a commuter it is not. I don't ride at weekends so it's wasted on me.

But fear not. It will only spur me on to finish my NSR!
