Yeah ZV7's are pretty decent as well.

In fairness they didn't say it was icy, and I can well believe that it would have let go on a cold wet road because I experienced the self same thing. No ice anywhere to be seen.

The definition of a summer tyre isn't "for use on dry summer days only, or DEATH" but it may as well be for really terrible ditchfinders. :D

Ive driven with semi slicks in the snow (not recommended) and it felt like I had a similar level of grip on that wet left hander.

Who?

The trader for selling the car on with the tyres?
Me for for trading a car in with the tyres?
The garage for putting the tyres on?
The wholesaler who sold the tyres to the garage?
The manufacture of the tyres?

List goes on.

you say list goes on but you stopped it after 5 entries. please go on then......

It seems a lesson for the ill informed who think tyres are just tyres and for normal use cheap is fine.

for normal use cheap IS fine. but the muppet in the video driving like ken block doing gymkhana on public roads in the wet is the problem here not the tyres.

Personally I notice a huge difference in the wet between my Turanzas and say jumping into something on run of the mill model Avons or something of that ilk never mind cheaper - to the point I won't go back to something that doesn't have decent wet rating/design.

i too notice the difference but thats only when driving silly. 30mph to tescos and back no difference.

How is that? I'm going round a roundabout following traffic at normal speed. Same roundabout I done daily for years without a problem.

lol i got the videos mixed up above, had them opened in individual tabs. could be my browser at fault or me but im playing it safe and blaming you for that too :p

It depends. Not all tyres are created equal. That goes for those that we classify as "ditchfinders" too.

For instance a set of Three-A P606's I would say are probably "fine", I have some on my GS300 which it came with. I intended on ordering some replacement tyres before I even picked it up, but a friend told me he had them on an old car and was surprised by how decent they were, so I kept them, and I must say they aren't bad. Not perfect by any means, but not unpredictable.

Whereas those Kendas in Lee's video, the Autogrips I had the misfortune of experiencing, and many others, are not fine and are downright dangerous.

The trouble is, tyres at that end of the spectrum don't tend to get the feedback and reviews that tyres considered mid range and up get, so you find out how lethal a particular one is or isn't at your own peril.

Odd that iv seen more crashed cars that had premium tyres than budget ones.
Only other day seen a spun out audi tt that was on side of the road with damage all around it as i walked pass i saw the tyres were michelin ps4.

I didn't set out to buy the Kendas... car was in for MOT, got a call saying it failed for one of the rears being winter and the other normal summer. So I told them to put 2 new tyres on, I was asked budgets or mid range, I just said budget and that was that.

Like I've said, I've had budgets many times and never had a problem so didn't think this time would be any different. I wasn't to know they were going to fit the 2nd worse budgets on the market.

I have Avon ZV7s on my current car but I'm sure some here will say they aren't good enough either.
