Sorry but when I press F9 all i get is an icon on the screen for keyboard backlight (MBP). How do I remove this?

Fn + F9 then, there is some way to swap it round, not sure though.

I tried that but it makes a "bmm" noise indicating it wont do that!

Configure top right corner to trigger exposé. Better that way.
