We're off to look at a potential new pad tomorrow that I know needs work, so I'm gathering some ideas for various rooms. Both in function, and form.

For example (and I hope people don't mind me calling attention to their good work!):

  • James on here has knocked down a wall to open out the lounge into the kitchen creating more light and space.

  • StevenG has painstakingly ensured his tiles are level in the bathroom and all architrave is meticulously finished.

  • Clipsey has made a floating wall for his telly mount, with ambient back lighting.
We have a rough idea in our minds of what we want from the place, light and airy open plan kitchen/back room/dining room is definitely one and distributed AV is another (actually screw everything else, this is what I'm most interested in!) but anything the Mrs and I can bounce off one and another would be sweet.

So H&G, any more? :)

edit - Dah, could a mod please amend the thread title to the correct spelling of aesthetic please?

Always make sure you have an abundance of double socket's around walls in every room.

If you are running cables down a wall to say back of AV/TV etc put a duct/tube down wall just in case.

If you have a fully tiled bathroom put underfloor heating in to suppliment radiators and also factor in a fan wall heater (Excellent things) for those odd times heating isn't on.

Main thing is plan far ahead - If you have a silly idea and dismiss it -next year it could be reality.

+1.

We did our bathroom this year and thanks to planning ahead when we gutted the house 5 years ago, all the pipework was in place.

Also measure everything you are moving to get a better idea of where it will go, nothing worse than thinking that your fridge freezer will fit through the kitchen door and it doesn't.
