Post your manly machines

The only true battleship class in existence. There is one moored on the Delaware River at Philadelphia which I see every day when driving to work - man it's huge.

*drools*

who in their right mind, walks into their bosses office one day and says
I've had a great idea!
Lets stick an artillery cannon on a plane :D

Oh to be an engineer :(

The worlds most advanced Warship, meet the HMS Daring

bae_cimg_sfs_type_45_daring.jpg

Here is a few fun facts, read about it in this months FHM Magazine

POWER
The WR21 gas turbines, with their state-of-the-art recuperators are about the most efficient out there. Between them, these engines produce 47MW, enough to power 70,000 homes, which is more than the city of Dundee.

STEALTH
The design incorporates stealth technology to reduce the chances of it being identified – this includes the cooling of exhaust gases to reduce the infra-red signature and avoiding the use of right angles – this reduces the radar signature to make the Type 45 appear to be the size of a fishing boat

PAAMS (Just WOW!)
The principle anti-missile system can deal with multiple targets simultaneously and is the most advanced system of its kind in the world. It can identify and deal with more threats simultaneously and deploys missiles more quickly and effectively. The system can identify, track and ultimately destroy a threat the size of a cricket ball traveling at three times the speed of sound.

ASTER MISSILES
The missiles are 20 times more maneuverable than a Formula 1 car (pulling over 60G)

RADAR
The long range radar has a range of hundreds of kilometers. One of its main functions is to detect sea-skimming missiles and it is one of the most advanced in the world. When testing the Long Range Radar, the equipment picked up all of the inward and outward bound flights from several major European airports including Charles de Gaulle in Paris, London Heathrow, Frankfurt and Schiphol in Amsterdam.

Some very amazing things that it can do, and i'm sure a lot more that we wont know about, what do you think?

Can't be bothered to hunt for pictures at the moment - so a list will have to suffice.

English Electric Lightning
Hawker Hurricane
Avro Lancaster
Supermarine Spitfire
North American Aviation P-51 Mustang
DeHavilland Mosquito
Messerschmitt Bf 109
Messerschmitt Me 262
Focke-Wulf FW 190
Handley Page Victor
Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt
Hawker Siddeley Harrier

I'm impressed by very few modern aircraft.

Largely agree with you Flibster (at least on my slightly shortened list ;)). The Spitfire is my ultimate machine.

It's us farmers that make it possible for you to have food on the table.

Well said that man..

We stopped doing Potatoes a few years ago, no money in it. :(
The farm is an empty husk compared to when I was growing up.
The most active time of the year is now silaging - just finished 2nd cut.
and then in August for the wheat and baling.
So boring. :(

EDIT: And I just found out that it's British! Wehay! :D

2nd cut ?

We only finished 1st cut a few weeks back.. just shy of 1000 round bales, good fun bringing those up from the fields on the trailer in loads of 14 ;)

We are just Dairy here with Holstein, Fresian, and Brown swiss.. there is still some money in farming but not a lot for the amount of graft you do.

Some of my favourites.

One more. :D

One Top Fuel Dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes
more horsepower than the first 4 rows at the Daytona 500.

Under full throttle, a Top Fuel Dragster engine consumes
1.5 gallons of nitro methane per second; a fully loaded
747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy
being produced.

A stock Dodge 426 Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough
power to drive the dragster’s supercharger.

With 3000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger
on overdrive, the fuel mixture is compressed into a near-solid
form before ignition. Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic
lock at full throttle.

At the stoichiometric 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitro methane
the flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees F.

Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame
seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen,
dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing
exhaust gases.

Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This
is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder.
Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during a pass.
After half way, the engine is dieseling from compression
plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1400 degrees F. The
engine can only be shut down after cutting the fuel flow.

If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro
builds up in the affected cylinder and then explodes with
sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in
pieces or split the block in half.

In order to exceed 300 mph in 4.5 seconds, dragsters must
accelerate at an average of over 4G’s. In order to reach
200 mph well before half-track, the launch acceleration
approaches 8G’s.

Dragsters reach over 300 mph before you have completed
reading this sentence.

I give you little Boy
4152_300px-Little_boy.jpg

Weight 4,000 kg
Length 3.0 m
Diameter 0.7 m
Blast yield 13 to 16 kilotons

Oh and I've wanted a dodge tomhawk for years. Or maybe a trike based on one. Now that would be cool.
