The squeezeboxs just flat out rock. I love them so much. One downside is that it requires server software to be running an a machine, it can't just access network shares, but that's no problem for me. My linux server (permanently on) is my Slimserver.
It can also play internet radio stations and connect to the Squeezenetwork if the server is off. There are lots of plugins too, AlienBBC is very good.

Download the server software and Softsqueeze (the hardware player emulator) and have a play. Then imagine it plugged into your stereo, via optical or co-ax digital, or the analogue connectors (how I do it, it has a great onboard DAC).
On the wireless boxes, it will also act as a wireless brige, so plug your PS2 or xbox into it to get it on the wireless lan.

My squeezebox2 was so good I got a squeezebox3 for the stereo downstairs. The best things I ever bought.

Thanks DaveyDave, i wont reply anymore on here as dont want to take it "off-topic" but i am thinking of one of there wireless media players for downstairs in the lounge connected to the Hi Fi, as just put all my cd collection onto the computer (some 180 albums and growing) so it would be great to have them all instantly available to play.

was thinking of something like the DLINK DSM 320 so it plugs into my TV so i can also see photos and video as well as MP3's but after reading about them, they dont seem to be that good.

I have just found a Squeezebox 3 for £210 is that a good price for one, (the wireless variant)
Then was thinking of something like the Netgear Wireless router & Modem (DG834GT) for £78

To me they seem a good package to get me into wireless world, It would take the place of my wanadoo USB modem, then all i would need is a wireless card for another pc in the spare room if i wished to have that up and running (As at the moment its just sat there doing nothing, was my PC before i built this one)

If you have any more information on the Squeezebox 3, drop me line please, would appreciate it

I have spare hardware laying around dying to do something but my server is drawing 350watts alone, starting to get costly...

I thought I ran some over the top stuff, Kelv, wsus at home? :D

For people wondering, all software via MSDN

Makes pretty good sense tbh when there are that many machines to patch every month. I've toyed with the idea, but don't want to run a seperate Win2k3 server :) (space, power and cost constraints)

We're using it at work now (in conjunction with SMS)... got the room for it, so thought I'd make use of it at home too, and as Davey Dave said, makes patching a lot easier :D

Kelv.

Just cos I don't let the rest of my family use my network :D

EDIT:
Technically I know the SAMBA isn't a server but that is all it is uesd for as it's only a P3 500
