Hi all,

I am going through the process of setting up a home mail server for learning reasons and I have got stuck.

I have been following the guide from here.

I am at the stage where I can telnet smtp on the mail server and send a message that way and also send a email using postfixadmin and this successfully reaches my other account. I at the stage where I would like to connect to the mail server using Thunderbird but I am unable to.

I am able to telnet dovecot but when I try and login I get a no authentication failed message.

What should this login be? I have I account which I created when setting up postfixadmin. Is this not the email and password I should use?

I also get this message when I try and add a mailbox using postfixadmin:

Invalid domain name selected, or you tried to select a domain you are not an admin for

Any more info let me know.

I can't help with specifics as I used a different guide ( http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/ ).

My first suggestion would check and re-check that you've not missed a line somewhere, allowed a spelling mistake to slip though, etc. I got stuck with both of those.

I read somewhere (probably in the above guide) that even as little as an unwanted space on the end of a line in a configuration file can be enough to cause problems.

Are you trying to use thunderbird from the same pc or a different one? Have you tried logging in using your username and password that you use to login to the server?
