I think so although I'm not playing much at the moment and definitely not flying because I need a PC upgrade. That pic shows me multi-crewing as a bomber/tail gunner so my rig isn't so important. 
I play on the ground mainly.
It's a full on sim so not to everyone's taste. Because of the huge scale and scope of the game the graphics are no match for BF1942 and the like.

I take it there's a sort of lobby interface and you join missions from there?

You join brigades and missions are posted that you can join or you can create your own. The war is directed by two player run high commands who set attack and defence objectives as well as a controlling a research/production/supply system that adds a strategic element. An important part of the game is an in built squad system. You can lone wolf and have fun but it really a co-operative game.
Edit: I should say there is only one server with the war going on 24/7.
