Okay, so about 3 or 4 months ago, my PSU burnt out. Sent for a new one and got one back, when I put it in I found that when the previous PSU burnt out, it also took the hard-drive out with it. So I sent for a new one, today I finally got my new one HDD (sata) back and it doesn't work. While I was waiting for my HDD I was using a IDE hard-drive.

Now I'm stuck for ideas.. Whats going on?

Maybe when the PSU went it also knocked out the sata ports on the mobo.

If thats the case ill just buy a bigger ide hdd. Im not going however long without a pc. man, typing on ps3 is slow. sorry for bad grammar.

Well if the psu took out the hdd it makes sense to think it might have taken those ports out with it.Have you tried the HDD in different Sata ports?

Faulty HDD? So everything worked perfectly when you used IDE HDD then? Tried different SATA ports?

I tried 3 different ones, a sata hdd doesnt connect to mobo in anyway, so why would that be the prob. psu and hdd arebrand new

Yes but it doesn't mean they're not faulty.

Im confused, sata hdds have only two connections that go to psu.

It has to connect to the sata ports on the mobo

Sata drives need to be connected to the power supply and the motherboard (the same way anything does really).

Some have two different power connections, just use one.

And you plugged in both??

You either use the SATA power connector OR the traditional 4-pin molex, not both.

Thats seems to be the least of his problems if the hard drive isn't connected to the motherboard at all :\

How would a sata harddrive talk to the motherboard through a PSU?
