potential graphics card issue

High guys and girls,

So recently i bought myself a second 7970 which i was looking to watercool, while waiting for all the other bits to arrive I've put the new card in my pc to check it's all working fine, it's been in a few days now and all has been fine but I've got home from work today and seen what looks like a graphics glitch on the top of my screen (see pictures) it seems worse while playing back video but is there most the time. anyone got any ideas what could be causing this? graphics card issue, os issue? i've really got no idea.

exact graphics card is a Asus 7970 DCU2T with driver 9.2.0.0 running on windows 8 64bit.

Tried reinstalling drivers? Looks like it could be faulty memory if that doesn't cure it but to confirm, try going back to earlier drivers.

change the DVI/VGA/HDMI/Display port cable

thanks for the tips, went to the shop and when i came back the problem seemed to have disappeared which is strange and I haven't seen it since. Really confused but glad it's gone.
